Any serious gardener knows that the trick to happy, healthy plants is the amount of education they receive. Start early, and make sure to read to them often. That's what I always say.
Also don't be afraid to really challenge them in concepts. It might make sense to start small, teaching the basics, but I find that plants are incredibly intelligent and given the chance they will succeed even with the hardest of school work assignments.
This year we had the opportunity to give them a college level education, and we jumped on the chance! Our bug-out house is owned by a dedicated nurse who happened to leave behind all of her notes and learning materials. Sheet after sheet of anatomy diagrams, math equations and vocabulary words. I couldn't have asked for better materials!
How to Teach Your Plants
The real trick lies in the application. Unlike human pupils, plants are unable to write or read. They learn best from osmosis and verbal instruction. The key is to read each page out loud to them, then gently lay the sheet of paper down on the ground. Step on it a few times to crunch it in place. Once each plant is surrounded by it's course material, get the hose and spray it all down. The water allows the information to drain into the soil, thus adding retention!
Once it is all thoroughly saturated, apply a generous helping of mulch to hold the papers in place!
Repeat if necessary. Feel free to add different subjects and lessons as time goes by.
Once a firm bed of education has been laid, you can sit back and watch over the course of the next few weeks and months as your plants grow bigger and fuller!
They'll be ready to break into the world with all the fruit they bear!
Haha Thanks so much for sharing this with me. As I was laying down sheets of old nursing papers, I couldn't help but feel like I was passing out worksheets to a classroom of plants, and I felt the only right thing to do was share the experience with everyone else haha. If you have a garden growing, I hope yours is happy and healthy and full of great knowledge!
Much love,
