Hail to the Hive!
I always used to love receiving letters, postcards and parcels. I think we all do. There’s something cool about having something physically delivered just to you ( except bills of course ). Being an old school traveler from way back postcards were something I not only used to love to send back from my travels but also loved receiving from friends around the globe.
A few years back a friend of mine who I once hitchiked across Africa with, reached out on social media and had friends from around the globe send him and his daughter postcards to where they were in Finland. He would then post them on social media and he would teach his young daughter about geography explaining where they had come from and a story behind each. I loved the idea.
I was resurrecting this mix of postcards and social media for the dive shop in the Philippines I was running when covid hit and then it never happened. But recently I have had a lot of great feedback about the photo montage I do at the end of my youtube vlogs and this combined with viewers using a ‘buy me a coffee’ link on there to buy me beers had me thinking.
So I ordered a bunch of postcards to be printed and said on the YouTube channel that I’d like to thank those buying me beers and send em a card so include your address when you buy me a beer.
I’m glad the cards have arrived as I have at least 20 or so to write out and post off this week to parts of the USA,UK & Australia. I’m super happy with the cards and also more than a little excited about this little project as it’s just fun.
It will also make a nice segment in the vlog sitting in a pub thanking viewers and getting them to send me shots of them with the card or the card on their fridge wherever in the world they are.
I may even include it in the 3speak versions of the vlogs if there is an interest.
Did you like sending and receiving postcards? Is it a nostalgic thing we should resurrect? I think so. I shall do a follow up post in a few weeks to see how its going so….
