Hola, amigos especiales!
Juego & Aprendizaje Azul / 1er CONCURSO #HiveBlue 2026
Encuentra el color y enganchalo
Hello, special friends!
I hope you’re all well and had a lovely weekend!
And now it’s time for:
Blue Play & Learning / 1st #HiveBlue 2026 COMPETITION
A competition in which those of us who care for a person with autism will share games and strategies that lead to optimal communication within the teaching-learning process for our children.
Within the learning process, there are certain aspects we generally need to take into account that will allow us to connect better with the child, ensure a smoother flow of information, and enable the child to achieve meaningful learning. Among these important aspects are: the child’s interests, and the type of materials used, which should be appealing in some way—whether through their shape, texture, colour, or the way they are handled.
Another key aspect we must also bear in mind is ‘immediate positive reinforcement’ for each of our child’s achievements. And when I say achievement, I don’t just mean reaching the final goal, but the effort they put into each activity, the time it takes them, and the commitment they show; valuing every action as a small victory, even if it isn’t completed in a single moment.
The game I’m sharing with you has a very funny name; it came to me one morning when I was doing my homework at home and my twins were about five years old. They were always fascinated by my clothes pegs and used to play with them a lot. So, let’s play:
¿Qué necesitas?
Mecate o mecatillo
What do you need?
Rope or twine
A basket, which can be made of any material (wicker, plastic, etc.), woven.
Pinzas de colores
Coloured clothes pegs
BUENA DISPOSICIÓN ....(>‿◠)✌
GOOD SPIRIT
It’s a very simple game that involves placing clothes pegs of different colours in a basket or container and:
1.-Sit the child in front of the basket.
2.- Explain that you’re going to play a game in which they have to find the pegs of the colour you ask for. (Remember that, if necessary, you should repeat the instructions and demonstrate the action until you’re sure they’ve understood.)
3.- Next, tell them that you are going to count to 10 and that when you say the magic number (10), they must stop and count the number of pegs they have managed to collect.
4.- If they have a playmate, as in my case, tell them beforehand that after they have had a go, it will be the other child’s turn. If not, suggest they try again to see if they can find more clips next time.
5.- Remember to praise and cheer them on every time they follow one of the rules.
6.- Once you have played several times, ask them to place each of the pegs they have collected onto the string you have previously placed at their height, saying: “Now hook them on”, demonstrating the action as you give the verbal instruction. If they find it difficult, offer your help.
I hope you find this useful so that, as well as being a learning experience, it is also a chance to spend quality time with your child. Let them know just how capable they are and how happy it makes you to see them succeed.
