I'm done with most social media. X, Reddit, Instagram, Bluesky. All gone. Facebook I barely touch anymore except to stay in touch with family and old friends. LinkedIn stays because it's for business, but even it is becoming a slop show.
But Hive? Hive stays.
The others had to go. Centralization, toxicity, forced content, ads shoved in your face every third post, and algorithms deciding what you see based on what keeps you angry or scrolling. It stopped being about connection a long time ago. Now it's just a machine designed to harvest your attention and sell it to the highest bidder.
I got tired of it. Got tired of the rage cycles and the same arguments on repeat. Tired of people screaming into the void hoping for likes. Content that exists only to trigger a reaction. It wasn't adding anything to my life and was actually draining the life out of me.
The switch wasn't overnight, but was gradual. I stopped checking one platform and then another. Eventually realized I didn't miss any of them, not even a little.
Hive is different. I can write here openly. Say what I want without some algorithm burying it or boosting it based on engagement metrics. The community actually interacts, for the most part. There is real comments, real conversations. Not bots and trolls looking for a fight...for the most part.
Yeah you can earn crypto here. I'm not going to pretend that's not part of it. But I'm not a crypto fanboy anymore. That's not why I stayed. I stayed because it feels like what social media was supposed to be before it all turned to shit.
Since stepping away from the others I have more time. More focus. Better mental health. I'm not doom scrolling at midnight. I'm not getting pissed off at strangers on the internet. No regrets, don't miss it and should have done it sooner.
Anyone else make the switch? What made you leave?
Thanks for reading,
Joe
