I was in a rush all weekend.
Regular weekly supplies in markets. Tidying up the apartment - washing windows, vacuuming, watering flowers, washing and drying clothes, then preparing lunch...
In the evening, the celebration of the company's anniversary, to which my business partner invited me.
On Sunday, I slept a little longer, because the previous night was tiring, and after waking up, I was waiting for a ride to the city, to do some shopping for my friend's upcoming birthday party.
Crowded around the city, finding a parking spot - an impossible mission.
Parking in a public garage, narrow, unlit, led to the fact that I hit the cracked part of the wall with the back of the car, which the sensors and camera did not register, thus damaging the car....
The damage was done, my blood pressure increased, but for what it's worth, it's gone.
Need to speed up more...
I'm rushing home to make some sweet treats, because we're expecting guests in the evening.
A very busy weekend
And all that time, the scenario of choosing airline tickets for the summer annual vacation, combining them with the dates and times of the flights and combining them with hotel accommodation is going through my head.
Whether 10 or 11 nights, whether in June, July, August.
I call my colleagues and the director, ask about their plans and whether it's OK to fit in some free time.
And then an calls to my partner's colleagues, because she also fits in with her colleagues.
I can, she can't.
She can, I can't.
Ticket and hotel prices are getting more expensive with each check.
Even the high prices are now "peppered".
And we are getting close to solving the hotel reservation and the purchase of plane tickets, while the promotion is still going on and while the tickets are a little cheaper...
Somehow we accept the idea of a late evening (night) flight, in order to fit in the dates that suit both.
The agreement fell through: 10 days.
Just as much as is enough for us, and that we can fit into the budget.
A little before midnight, very tired and barely able to see, I turn on the computer, log on to the airline's website, enter the desired dates, check the prices, choose the luggage, the seat, enter the passenger information, my contact information and go to the payment page, where I enter the card and click "Pay".
I received a confirmation of payment and ticket in electronic form.
Great, I'm done.
But...
Fuck!
I guessed the dates, but I didn't get the right flight times.
Instead of an early morning flight, which would have provided us with a full day at the location after landing, I took a late evening flight, where we would sleep straight off the plane. One whole day less...
What a tribute to inexperience.
And careless.
And rashness...
Some things should not be done when we are overworked and do not have time to devote to that activity with 100% attention.
But what should I do, I know that I will not change the dates of the tickets, because each change costs like half a ticket.
We will shorten the vacation by one day.
Those days that serve to recharge my batteries and recover my soul and body, were reduced by one by a clicking error...
It's not a disaster, we have a flight, just one day less.
Tired, I go to bed after midnight, because I get up early in the morning (I hope I will be able to rest) and as I pass the corridor, my eyes fall on the calendar.
"Less is more." (Manje je više)
Robert Browning (1812-1889)
I start to laugh and at the same time I say out loud: "LIE!!".
When my partner asks me what I'm talking about and who I'm arguing with, I show her this day on the calendar.
"Yes, yes, LIE," she agreed with me.
Maybe this saying makes sense for something in our lives, but for travel and days spent on summer vacation, it makes no sense at all.
For enjoying and vacationing, I would state a totally different saying:
Maybe "Less is more", but "More is better" (measured in vacation days).
When you plan your vacations, how many days do you usually plan for the vacation to last? Do you buy airline tickets and book hotel accommodation yourself, or do you leave everything to travel agencies? And a question, in order to ease my soul a little, have you ever missed the dates when you bought airline tickets?
😅
