Due to some events unfolding in an unfavourable way, I was sad yesterday. I was just scrolling through various platforms to cool off when I saw a short message "happiness is free".
Honestly, this isn't the first time I am seeing this popular saying, I have in fact seen it in various forms like "there is no key to happiness, the door is always open".
So on this instance, because of my mood, I began to query this saying because if happiness is free, why was I sad? I wanted to be happy, but I couldn't, yet I am told happiness is free.
A lot of various things make us happy. It could be food for some, wine, academic success, financial success, plans going your way etc. If the things that makes a person happy are lacking, the person would most likely not be happy.
For something to be free, it should not cost anything to get, for example the air that we breath. I actually think that is the only thing free in life, and of course death. Every other thing seems to require something from us in exchange and that includes happiness.
The sad mood made me quite unproductive so I decided to go to my barber shop and have my haircut. My mood improved afterwards but I can't say I am happy yet.

While coming back from the barbershop, I met a classmate who appeared to be walking aimlessly. It happened that he was saddened by a similar incidence and just wanted to Stroll.

I may be wrong, but it's my opinion that happiness is not really free, rather can be gotten cheaply most times.
Thanks for reading through, let me know your thoughts please.
