Children are the future generation, and teachers are entrusted with the responsibility of equipping them with the knowledge, values, and skills they need to thrive.
Teaching, especially at the primary level, is not an easy task. It requires patience, commitment, and above all, passion to truly make an impact.
When I applied for this teaching role, I initially requested to be assigned to the secondary section. However, I was placed in the primary section due to a shortage of staff in that area. I accepted the assignment, and I can honestly say that interacting with these younger learners has proven to be far more interesting than I initially expected.
At first, I underestimated their abilities. But listening to them daily has made me realize that children today are far more intelligent and thoughtful than we often assume.
I asked the girl standing a simple question:
“Suffer now and enjoy later, or enjoy now and suffer later. which would you prefer?”
To my surprise, all of them chose “enjoy later,” each giving a clear and thoughtful reason.
She said if am suffering in a direction for a better that future fine, but if am suffering for no reason please let me enjoy because for suffering to kill me, I rather die in enjoyment.
Her response left me speechless. I never expected such depth of thinking from a child her age. Out of curiosity, I asked how old she was.
She replied, “I am 8 years old.”
That moment left a lasting impression on me.
If we desire a better future, then we must raise better children.
Raise them right, and we shape a brighter tomorrow.
