ENGAGED!
not the most glamorous photo but it was in the moment
No I haven't gone mad, there is a woman out there who doesn't actually find me insufferable and ugly, so I asked her to marry me, and on that moonlit night, she said yes!
The details of the event are temporarily a little under wraps and I'll surely open up about it here in the future, but suffice (it) to say, it didn't go quite as planned, but it was, in the end, a romantically successful endeavour.
It took me 36 friggin' years to lock in the soulmate of my dreams, probably because I'm annoying, but also because I refused to compromise or 'settle for less'.
Good things come to those who wait
I like to think of it as simply skipping the first failed marriage which the majority of the western world suffers through, and landing on the right one first time.
Life up to this point, as for most people I suppose, has been quite a challenge, in terms of money, career, social, romantic, family and health. but after all that, the second she said 'yes', it just felt like...
The game is far from over, but this save point is solid, and the rest of the game is gonna be so much more fun playing with the love of my life by my side the whole way.
Can't wait!
Take a closer look
Since my girlfriend-now-fiancé is a professional designer, it was a pain in the arse to find the confidence that I had gotten a style she would love.
In short, I was looking for a theme of minimalism, modern, non-traditional (as solitaire setting would be), and not too dainty and overly princess-like-effeminate. In short, after some sneaky subtle questions over many weeks, I went with platinum & diamond in a new-fangled 'tension setting' technology, where huge forces from the platinum setting pushes against the sides of the diamond, locking it in place allowing the entire diamond to be visible, almost floating in mid-air.
This is what I landed on:
All three diamonds floating there with a sparkle that I couldn't possibly capture on video. I'm much too poor historically to have ever seen a diamond before, so I was totally mesmerised. Still am, every time I see it. It's quite addictive to stare at with all that diamond real estate.
Pair this ring with easily the most expensive vacation I've ever spent money on (to be blogged about in the future), and I got myself the wife I almost certainly would have gotten even if I handed over a plastic ring in a McDonald's. But hey, worth every effort.
