Yesterday, while I was having dinner, in front of a nice plate of caponata I reflected a little on the pleasures of life.
Yes, there are many, but I'll focus on the food... You expected it, didn't you?
Life is made of commitment and sacrifices and, deep down, I think it's right; to enjoy the pleasures that it reserves for us, we must first put ourselves in and deserve the enjoyment after having done our duty.
One of these pleasures is definitely food; needless to go around it for me it is also a great passion, being one of my jobs linked to it; moreover, when I need to relax, cooking I can do it and push my thoughts away.
Food is many things, first of all sharing; what's more convivial than a laid table?
The best evenings are those spent in good company, perhaps with your life partner or even with your closest friends, a nice glass of wine, a plate of spaghetti, garlic, oil and chilli pepper and you're in heaven!
Yes, I imagine heaven exactly like this and, in my opinion, Marley too!
I'm not a person who spends money, I always aim for the essentials and I prefer quality over quantity; this is even more true in food, although, when i eat i can't deny that i also like a bit of quantity lol!
My dear grandmother taught me that the only situation in which you shouldn't look at your wallet is with food, she always said: "chiddi su sordi spent bonu belli e beneditti!" which, translated from our dialect means: "that is money well spent, beautiful and blessed!".
Like everyone, I have favorite dishes and ingredients, pizza for example or my latest discovery, vegemite!
However, if I think of the recipe that I like the most, I cannot fail to mention the cream, ham and peas pasta; my absolute favorite is the one my mum makes and, as you can well understand, memories and affections are linked to this dish as well as a healthy appetite.
Returning to the subject of pleasures, I have always thought that it is right to enjoy life and allow yourself pleasures; as in everything I believe that balance is needed and, above all, I think that we must deserve pleasures, they are like goals we reach or rewards we give ourselves for having fulfilled our duties and for having been good.
Satisfaction for its own sake, immoderate and extemporaneous has never attracted me, it probably depends on my character, the way I grew up and the examples I had.
In any case I am happy with this side of my personality.
this way of seeing things, in this case the pleasures, allows me to maintain a balance, to be moderate and not overdo it...
Oh well come on I admit it, sometimes I exaggerate too, but I'm Calabrian for us food is religion.
I'd like to be able to invite some of the people I keep in touch with here on Hive to an evening of frittole, also called "frittolata"; frittole are nothing but boiled pork, for hours and hours and hours...and hours; obviously as I'm sure you know, nothing is thrown away from the pig, in fact at the end of the evening it was all eaten, poor little pig!
They are very entertaining evenings, the wine flows freely, we chat, laugh, dance and sing; it is something that cannot be explained, it must be lived!
Well, maybe now it's better that I stop, also because, my hunger is coming back!
Thank you for coming this far and I hope this post of mine will give you food for thought and that you enjoyed it.
Feel free to express your every thought and idea in the comments.
Hug you!
