Today is Sunday, and after yesterday's Three Wise Men Day where we all give each other presents, the winter vacation period is over. It's been a bitter-sweet vacation as my wife has been in bed with COVID for the past two days and the meal we had organized with all the family had to be canceled. But we had family meals on December 25th and 26th and of course, celebrated New Year's Eve.
Ours is a very traditional country, due to its Catholic influence, many Christian traditions persist, although many don't even know what they represent. Our family is not very religious, and I don't believe in any kind of God, although had to go through religious ceremonies until I was an adult. But when I was in elementary school, we had religion class, where we studied the Old Testament through young children's books.
I like to celebrate traditions, especially those local which are the ones we feel more linked to. One of the Catholic traditions is to keep all Christmas ornaments in their place until February the second which is the Candlemas Fest.
We will keep them all for a few more days. It keeps the Christmas flavor still in the house and makes more sense than following all the consumerism rules that have been pushed towards us, where the day after one celebration is over, we have to pack everything and start thinking about the following one.
At Christmas, besides all the delicious stuff we usually cook for the family meals, there is one additional food tradition which is eating Turron, we still have some pieces left, they will take them away from the grocery stores during this week, but I am not gonna pack them or throw them away for sure. I will just enjoy them during the coming days.
