The way AI and society is evolving, it is clear many people will have to rethink how they get income in a different way they are doing right now. As I see it, there are many professionals which have forgotten to use their "hand" skills while focussing only on their "brain" ones. At the same time, most of people leaving in cities or villages have and increase need of "hand intensive" jobs such as brick and mortar, electricity, plumbery, etc. specially as society is getting older and older. I can see how many of these jobs are getting more and more expensive as the professionals in those specific industries get fewer and fewer.
Working on a computer gives you many advantages as you can offer your services anywhere around the world, but those same advantages become also disadvantages as there is way more competition for those jobs on top of AI disrupting the whole market. Local related jobs cannot be done by workers remotely.
In the rural area were we have the farm in Portugal, there is lack of many of these services, and even though salaries are low, the cost of these services is not low and most of the time the ratio quality/price is very low, as there are no professionals around you can choose from.
We have to stop complaining and start paying more attention about what is happening to the world around us, not only globally but also locally. And try to encounter those opportunities around us which we never payed attention before just because we thought we had a "stable" life. I am sure several professionals will have a hard time trying to find them, but there will be others which will be able to "relocate" in their careers if they "delete" their professional history and focus on the future as a new fresh start.
