Every two or three months I like looking back at my plans from the 2-3 months before and see if I am behind or ahead of schedule.
Just checked and I am way ahead in most aspects. I’m on schedule to have a live album out in April and a “studio” album out by July or August.
Then if this momentum continues I will be able to put out a second album and fourth short novel around New Year’s. I may wait longer to release the second album but the first I hope to have ASAP so I have more recent work people can hear. My EP sounds like me 5-10 years ago and I need more music that feels like the last few years.
The goal was no filler whatsoever, an album thet feels powerful from start to finish and it’s coming together.
The goal for the second album will be to put out something of similar quality but to try writing and recording at the same time since it’s a much more advantageous work flow. If I can kill two birds with one stone, the work part will feel more and more like play and it’ll be way easier to spend time on music every single day.
As that comes together I will improve my mixing skills and may be able to start making music for hire, something which would be awesome to try. I also have some idea ls for collaboration and that would make it possible without any big hurdles.
Here’s what my original schedule looked like:
In January/February, the goal was to finish basic structure for songs #4 and #5, prepare songs 1-5 for live shows, have a show, plan and mix live EP and make a new live music video
All goals accomplished in time! I had three shows instead of one and the live EP became a live album!
In March the plan was to release the Live EP release, 2-3 more videos, start recording demos of songs 1-5, work on songs 6 and 7
Basically accomplished. Since the live EP became an album it took a little longer than planned but should be coming only a week or two later. The demos are going as planned. Have completely recorded two and getting ready to do another to..
Meanwhile the project got “shorter”. Since most songs clock in at 6-8 minutes with one or two being over 10 and a clearer concept came into view, the “(home) studio album” will be 7 songs, about 40-45 minutes. 6 are complete and ready to record.
The original plan for April - May was to finish songs 6-9 and have a few more shows, then in June/July i hoped to finish 11 songs, and record demo’s of everything with eyes on a Fall release
Since the album will be fewer songs, I am aiming for an August release now.
Here’s the current schedule:
April:
- Release live album and promote
- Write bass and other instruments for 3 songs
- Record semi final mixes of 3 songs
- Record some ideas for a second studio album that I can start working on seriously after this one is done
May (a bit busy with other things):
- Finish writing song 7
- Record songs 4 and 5
- Have a show
- Release a single to start promoting album
June
- Finish recording songs 6 and 7
- Start Mixing and Mastering
- Finalize album artwork
- Have a show outside Tokyo
July
- album release (if possible)
- make a music video
- Finish at least 3 demos for album 2
August
- At least 3 shows
- Another music video
- Print CD versions
- Start working on 4th short novel
Here’s some clips of the songs that will show up on either the live album or the album album or both:
