The issue you raise is crucial, because governments around the world often insist on denying or hiding suicide figures. It is not a trivial issue, as many would think, but a growing scourge, because, as you rightly said, people feel they have no control over their lives and believe that there is no point in continuing to exist.
There are a thousand ways to address the problem, but my perception is that there is no single solution; rather, it depends on a personal approach. Education is the underlying problem, so that the issue does not continue over time, affecting new generations. But as for the current generations, the issue is learning to deal with what it means to be human in an extremely competitive world. I recently read that Japan has also had a big problem for many years due to its high suicide rate, because people's life goals are simply impossible to achieve for the vast majority. The problem is that they are too demanding of themselves and want to achieve excellence in everything. Which is an expectation as beautiful as it is fictitious, since no one is good at everything.
I believe that a holistic approach to the situation would involve many aspects that are not currently being taken into consideration and that it may be a long time before they are considered. It is a matter of personal responsibility to manage our moods so that we do not fall into depression. Because depression in its worst stages is the cause of high suicide rates. This is my opinion on the matter.
