As the geopolitical situation in West Asia intensifies, the ripple effects are becoming increasingly visible across the Indian economy. The most impacted is the LPG supply. Many of the Indian household as well the hotels and restaurants were predominantly dependent upon the LPG cylinder for cooking. The shortage of supply not only impacted the household but also affected the corporate companies operating on Indian subcontinent. As per today's update many of the IT giants and corporate office have asked employees to bring their food from home. They are running out of LPG at office canteen and unable to run the office kitchen.
I remember relying upon the office canteen for my meals during my working days. Getting good food at reasonable price is what an employee could expect. Especially those who are outstation candidate. There are many employee across the different region of Idia working in different sectors. They would be greatly affected by this move by the corporate. These employee choose to work in far away from their hometown for better pay and availing various services like canteen. They arrange their accommodation at local paying guest and heavenly relies on office meals. Many of the office canteen runs 3 times a day offering breakfast, lunch and dinner. They are a boon to various employees getting food at reachable prices. But with the restriction coming up due to LPG shortage may hit them badly. Many of the employees do not have the affordability to cook their own food. And now corporate banning the kitchen services they going to be impacted hugely.
Powering my kitchen with traditional way of cooking
A shortage of gas cylinders (LPG) cripples daily life and local economies, forcing households and businesses to seek costly alternatives. Few days ago my brother called me to inform the amount of extra money a person paid for getting a LPG cylinder. Yesterday, one of the wedding reception was cancelled after all the arrangement because they could not get the LPG cylinders for cooking. People are ready to pay heavy prices to get a cylinder in black, but sometime it is not feasible too. My brother was worried about the situation in remote areas, as in these situations the villagers were the first to be greatly impacted. But they have the option to use electric cooktop or make use of coals , wooden logs, or dried cowdungs to get their kitchen stove running. They are very quick to shift to the traditional mode of cooking. But in cities the situation wont be such. Already, the demand of induction cook top is on rise. This has impacted the supply which results in price rise of the electric cooktop. Long queues at gas agencies for domestic cylinder refills are common, affecting households.
Price of LPG cylinder has already spiked and now the shortage is creating ruckus among the citizen. Some of the hotels and eateries has began charging fuel charges in the bills. In all these adverse condition , only the content creator on social media platform were happy as they found a topic to make some reels and content to increase their viewership. But for a common people the worst is yet to come, considering the problem has just started.
One the positive effects that I am eyeing, going to be on people who were relying on online foods. The shutting down of restaurants and eateries may impact these people too and enable them to get out of the comfort zone and cook something to eat. There is always some positive side, and these people need to leave their couch to cook something of their own.
In good faith - Peace!!
