Sometimes we are so fixed on reaching the peak that we forget how far we have already come. We look into our notes and immediately realize the undone: the work you haven’t started, the gym streak you broke, the documentary you haven’t started. But here is the quiet truth, every great journey is built on tiny steps and every step demands celebration.
Remember the first time you learned to ride bicycle? You didn’t achieve it in a single day. You fell, got up, fell again, got up again and kept on trying. First with the support of your parents/guardian, then, it was supported by two extra tyres. Finally, you were able to pedal it without any support.
One moment you could not even pedal at all and next, you were piercing the wind. It was a series of small victories–each fall a lesson, each restart a triumph.
Personal Triumph
It all began 2 years back with a simple idea and a passion in my heart. I started my own local shop with limited resources, fueled by the belief that small steps can lead to mighty change. Every product I displayed, every customer I greeted and every late night spent planning brought me closer to my goal. Though, it's still a work in progress but, each passing day adds something to it. I know that it is going to take a lot more time than I expected. Slowly but surely, my little shop is going to find it's place in the community.
Just remember, life’s big changes work the same way. Reading one chapter of the novel is progress, saving one penny you have been dreading is progress, choosing water over cold drink is progress. These moments are not humongous, they are just the tip that polishes your confidence and gives you confidence.
Do It
So, start noticing today’s small wins. Did you take a few minutes break before going back into your work? Did you tell your close one you love them? Did you think before speaking? Start doing it, these little victories are proof you are capable of changing, no matter how minor they may feel.
Reconstruct your brain to notice progress instead of shortcomings. Over time, you will achieve a lot big: a habit formed, a fear conquered, a dream closer.
For today’s challenge, think about at least three small wins.
• They can be as simple as drinking water instead of sugary stuff or as brave as sharing your opinion/plan in a room full of people.
• Write each one down or just go for mind mapping.
• Before bed, read them and Pat yourself with a warm “Well Done!”
Ask yourself, am I overlooking today’s small because of future’s massive breakthrough?
Pause and remind yourself that each thread matters.
