Screw 2025
Screw 2024, 2023, 2022, 2021.... for that matter too.
Screw all the years.
But don't worry, because I am going to be optimistic and say that 2026 is going to be the best year that earth has ever seen. So glorious, even those who believe they can imagine what heaven is like will be humbled by its majesty. All the dreams, no matter what they are, for everyone on earth will come true in 2026.
Can you imagine what that would look like?
There are many sickos in the world.
To finish off the nonsense that was 2025, Smallsteps and I went skating at the local rink, which is pretty great now. Previously, it was a rink that was only useable when the weather permitted, meaning that if it was above zero, it would melt and when it dropped again, they would have to redo the ice. Now though, they have renovated and there is a cooling system under the surface that keeps the surface cooler than it would be naturally, so even when the weather warms a bit, it is okay.
It is also close to us, so it is super convenient. And more importantly than that, this was the first time for me skating in a few years and the first time since having leg surgery a few months ago, and I was able to skate without the intense pain I would get in my feet, so I am keen to go again. It has been many, many years that I have been able to skate for an hour, even slowly. Normally after ten minutes the pain would be so excruciating I would take the skates off and be in shoes to lead Smallsteps around.
And while is living in the future of 2026 already, we still have eight or so hours to go before we can be rid of 2025. We don't have much planned, but I think we might watch the Sydney fireworks display and chillout a bit together, before setting up for our hotdog dinner. It is just the three of us + Puusti the Dog, and we will be taking it pretty easy. Maybe a movie.
We have to stay home most of the time with the puppy, because at 18:00 (6pm) the fireworks will start. Here, fireworks are legal a couple days of the year, new year's even being one of them. They are expensive in my opinion, but some families spend hundreds and hundreds on them each year. One family down the road will put on their own display some years that rivals a small city event. Hopefully they do it this year too.
We will likely visit our neighbours for a few minutes also, to drop off a bottle of wine and say hi them and a few other neighbours who are gathering there. There will be several other dogs in the house there, so we are unsure how it will go with Puusti and him being so small at the moment, so it will likely be just a fly-by visit.
A smile whilst skating.
Normally I would have a grimace with tears in my eyes.
I was going to do a bit of a review of the year, but I will do that depending on how the evening pans out. If things go really well, we can spend a bit more time hanging with the neighbours, if not, my wife and daughter won't make it until midnight. Whatever happens, I will be glad to see 2025 in the rear-view mirror.
Especially since 2026 is going to be so incredible.
Sure.
