My wife and I were invited to an event on the weekend and had the chance to see a couple Finnish artists perform. We aren't out too often, let alone to a place where we can enjoy some live music, so it was nice to not only be there, but with the two of us being so short, also be right up the front. It wasn't a long set and I have seen her a couple times before at various gigs back in history, but it was a nice evening. A different evening.
I couldn't take my proper camera, but I took some shots with my phone which came out okay, but rather than just having them as is, I played a bit in Lightroom to give them a much flatter look. Definitely not to my usual tastes, but I think the boldness of the images lends to the atmosphere of when they were taken, so it is fitting.
The editing I normally do for myself is trying to preserve the moment in a more "true to life" form. I want to capture the moment as is, rather than create a false moment through post-editing. However, when it comes to cover images, I tend to process them in different ways, to make them stand out a little more, and give them depth and contrast. I am not great at editing, but these days the tools are pretty easy to use and in my opinion, it is far better to have a crappy image of my own, than an AI-generated image that is stolen from an algorithm that steals from other images.
I was talking with my wife on the way home from the event and she was saying how she likes to be around the artistic types, and I agree. They tend to be more interesting and also, more broadly skilled than a lot of the "professionals" in business. This is a generalisation, but it often seems to go that way. Actors who can play instruments and sing and paint, compared to business people who can... talk about their business. It is not that they don't have skills, but the skills they have are generally far less interesting to engage with.
Generalisation.
Still, a good night was had and it was definitely an experience, even though it ended a little earlier than we had planned, since we didn't go to the "afterparty" events, as the lines were too long and we couldn't skip over them.
Instead we ended back at the hotel with fast food.
Another rarity.
