We Talk Friday
(WTF)
This is a semi-regular series that I will run on Fridays to hold discussions on a current topic from the week gone. The aim is to keep them light and conversational, though some might be heavier - regardless of the content topic itself though, just have some fun engaging and discussing with whoever happens to put in the effort in the comments section below.
We Talk Friday Ep. 31: Have You Forked Up?
Have you changed your Hive behaviours?
Behiviours?
We have now been cruising along on v1.28 for over a week now and while I haven't changed yet, I am going to have to adjust my voting a bit, because I am running out of voting power too quickly, staying too narrow. This is because I vote on comments quite generously, and with the "flat-rate" voting mechanism, it is eating down the power more quickly.
For those that don't yet know, the voting calculations changed in Hardfork 28 so that it is a simpler mechanism. A 100% vote always takes 2% of voting power, a 50% takes 1%, a 25% takes 0.5% and all the way down. This is different because while a 100% vote when at 100 voting power would take 2%, it would scale so that the next 100% vote would take about 1.8% of voting power and provide less upvote. Now, 100% is 100% value, and will take a straight-line reduction in power.
So if someone was watching their vote earlier and would not drop under 80% (voting power replenishes at 20% in 24 hours), they will find that they are in the 70s instead. If they continue voting in the same way the next day, they will reduce their power into the 60s. The bucket is being emptied faster than it is filled.
Since I have powered up a fair bit lately, my voting value is pretty high, so I should reduce it a little on comments. Though, should and will are two very different things. I would like to reward some more content though, so reduction might be necessary. Though, it is pretty incredible that someone can earn around 3+ HIVE by being part of the conversation, so hopefully they appreciate it. It is also pretty incredible that my full vote value is around 27 HIVE.
HIVE price is terrible!
At the high, that would be a (suitable for my humour) $69 vote. $690 distributed a day. That also means a comment today would be earning over $7. Not bad if we get to those prices again, and people held. If they powered up and voted, those values would compound further.
Will we ever see those prices again?
Dunno. But when HIVE is hovering around 10 cents, it is easy dismiss it all and not really appreciate the potential. So many people might have some regrets looking back at these low times, because they were selling, or not buying, or not earning, or doing something that doesn't support them in the future.
Will that be you?
I bought.
Did you fork up?
