We Talk Friday
(WTF)
This is a semi-regular series that I will run on Fridays to hold discussions on a current topic from the week gone. The aim is to keep them light and conversational, though some might be heavier - regardless of the content topic itself though, just have some fun engaging and discussing with whoever happens to put in the effort in the comments section below.
We Talk Friday Ep. 12: Hot For Teacher
Okay.... What the hell is going on these days!?!
When I was a student at school, there were a few teachers I had a bit of a crush on, my drama teacher at primary school, and at high school, my health teacher, PE teacher, and who can forget my flame-haired English teacher when I was in year 12, who was an exotic dancer in London only a few years earlier.
But they had no crush on me.
AFAIK
Yet, I keep seeing stories in news feeds about female teachers who have molested their male pupils and frankly, I am a little jealous! Yeah, I know that it is paedophilia, but I felt when I was 15 or 16 years of age, I was plenty mature enough to make my own decisions on who I was sleeping with. But putting my own disappointment at not being seduced by my teachers aside, it raises another question.
What is wrong with men today?
Many of these teachers are in their 20s and 30s, chasing after 15 year olds and even younger. This was pretty much unheard of in society not too long ago, likely because women are the more mature ones, so a girl seems older, and a man seems younger. Women just didn't seem to be interested in kids, and female paedophiles were rare. Is it that men in those age groups are acting so childishly that there isn't a big difference from an attraction standpoint between a 30 year old and a fifteen year old? Are the men playing too much PlayStation, and paying too little attention? Maybe the fifteen year old kids are more enthusiastic than Gen-Z and Millennial men?
It can't be because the boys are manlier now.
Of course, the media is a cherrypicked view of the world, but it does seem to be a global occurrence, as in the last week or so, I have seen multiple stories from the US, Australia, the UK and Russia. I don't know what has triggered the change in culture where this has now become "a thing" but it only ever seemed to happen in 1980s movies, driven by men who had fantasies about their own teachers once upon a time.
While I don't know the cause, I do think that it is a further indicator of societal degradation, where the culture has changed to become far more self-absorbed and focused on the desires of the individual. This breaks down a lot of the social agreements in society and leads to further degradation, as more and more people get harmed and perpetuate the cycle.
I wonder what happened to my English teacher....
