We Talk Friday
(WTF)
This is a semi-regular series that I will run on Fridays to hold discussions on a current topic from the week gone. The aim is to keep them light and conversational, though some might be heavier - regardless of the content topic itself though, just have some fun engaging and discussing with whoever happens to put in the effort in the comments section below.
We Talk Friday Ep. 48: Out of Ammo
1. Closing in on Winchester.
I hadn't heard this term until I was reading an article about how many Tomahawk (Is that cultural appropriation) missiles the US has fired in the last five weeks. That number is 850, and apparently they are "running out of ammo" in regards to the tomahawks. And the cost of those 850 shots is just under 3 billion. Looks like someone is going to make some money in the restocking contract.
Lucky the Department of Government Efficiency saved all that money.
No surprise though, that this "quick operation" is quickly turning into a clusterfuck for the US, where it has not only gone against international and US laws, but further alienated allies, and then begged for their help. I am not sure where the wins are for the US in this, other than it pushing the price of oil up (as the largest producer) and blocking the supply.
2. Rock and a hard place
I had an interesting conversation today with a guy who works for an institute that tries to improve Finn's health. It is an uphill battle, especially hard when carrying the added fat weight people have piled on. But I mentioned how while I am not a fan of government intervention in people's lives, it is probably far worse that corporations have been intervening in people's lives for the last few decades for profit, with very few checks and balances. They have been able to manipulate using advertising and access to data, pushing us to consume more, and accept less in return for our dollar.
It is only now, after a couple decades of warnings from people like me, that there is starting to be any pushback against the corporate creep that has taken hostage of our lives and is making us continually worse off across the spectrum of our beings. Take a walk around your home and look at all the stuff you have and catalogue whether it unequivocally improves you physically, mentally, emotionally or socially.
If it doesn't, why do you have or use it?
Did the government make you buy it? Governments suck in many ways, but I think that currently, the biggest threat to our health are the corporations that have convinced us that we need all the shit they create, even if it makes us ill, makes us fat, makes us stupid, makes us depressed - or worst of all - makes us dicks.
3. Don't be a dick.
