We Talk Friday
(WTF)
This is a semi-regular series that I will run on Fridays to hold discussions on a current topic from the week gone. The aim is to keep them light and conversational, though some might be heavier - regardless of the content topic itself though, just have some fun engaging and discussing with whoever happens to put in the effort in the comments section below.
We Talk Friday Ep. 50: Take a Seat
It has been quite a busy week for me for some reason. Not bad, but just busy and it has required thought in areas I haven't thought about for a while, and it has sapped my energy. When I have to think about things I don't often think about, I get tired. But on we go!
1. WTF is 50?
Correct. This is the 50th episode of WTF and since it hasn't been entirely weekly, it probably means that it is somewhere older than a year now, which is kind of cool Hopefully you have enjoyed it and we can meet to start the weekend for another year ahead. A year in today's world is a long time though, so who knows if any of us will exist in another 365 days.
2. Cease and Desist
Fuck, saying that out loud screws with my lisp. Normally I have "okay" control of it unless I get tired - which I am. However, what a shambles geopolitics is currently. But what I found interesting was Starmer (the UK PM) said;
“I’m fed up with the fact that families across the country see their bills go up and down on energy, businesses’ bills go up and down on energy because of the actions of Vladimir Putin or Donald Trump across the world”
That's right, core US allies are putting Trump into the same category as Putin and what is more, talking about the impact they are having on the global economy. What is most interesting with that though is that the haphazard and violent Trump activity has had far more effect on the global economy in a year than the Russian war in Ukraine has had in the last four years. The impact of mad men is not equal, even if their madness is.
3. Time is Relative
I was reading about some new car battery charging tech that cuts the time for a recharge down to about 10 minutes, which people are still complaining is too slow in comparison to filling up an ICE engine. But my question is, when people are spending hours a day scrolling mindlessly through ridiculous feeds of TikTok and Instagram, even if it take 30 minutes, what is the big deal? I remember having to wait four and a half days for a 200 MB download of Photoshop from a warez site, and that was at full speed the whole time.
People are spoiled brats these days. So impatient.
