Last week I managed to squeeze out some time to see a movie. Something I haven't done in a long while. I watched Zootopia 2 and it was better than I expected. Something stood out for me amongst the lots of things that happened.
We saw a character who felt like he didn't belong with his family and hence had a lot of things to prove to be accepted. It was a heavy feeling and it drove this character throughout the movie. This quest to prove himself was all he could think about and he was so passionate to do so that he betrayed people that trusted him.
He was defeated but he kept at it, coming back again and again. This passion is worth emulating. But the downside of passion is that it runs on a high emotional frequency which can blind you to some of the realities of life. He didn't care that having his way and proving something to his family was going to hurt and destroy a lot of people, it didn't matter to him.
Of course passion has to run on emotions but emotions have to be controlled or regulated. People lose their lives in pursuit of their passion, which in some cases are noble acts and in others, just plain stupid.
Our main character also had the same passion coursing through her. Hers was channeled to helping people, to saving lives even at the cost of her own it seems. She won at the end but in life we cannot always guarantee a win even if we are after a noble course.
She was so driven to achieve her goal that she lost sight of a few important things in her life. A burning passion will drive you to a goal, but self preservation has to be in place for you not to crash on the way.
I saw very different characters, different purposes, drive, vision and commitments but with the same unrestricted passion fueling them. Pushing them to the very extreme for their goals. It was commendable, enjoyable to watch too.
But there are no redos in life. We need to burn with passion always, but have a fire extinguisher of logical reasoning in hand too.
