An incident happened in my workplace. A potential intern had done something wrong. Something bad, the reaction from our administration was to take away his scholarship and prevent him from coming around. It was a whole lot of shouting, lying, apologies and begging.
I had no idea what actually happened but I was told the length to which our boss wanted to help this person. Some of the goodies that were planned in his absence. I was shocked. The plans were that good.
Now he is suspended and I don't know the next step for him. It got me thinking hard. How many opportunities had been ahead of me in this manner and because of my actions, I missed them completely? Who and who had wanted to help me or set me up for something great but my actions disappointed them?
It was a humbling thought. With the way life has been, what we are always sure of is that people have bad intentions for us, they want to do us harm, they don't want our progress, etc. But we can not seem to really tell when someone wants to do us good or plans to elevate us.
I know lots of people have worked hard. Really hard. Many of the things they have done to make it in life have gone largely unrewarded by life. It's almost like they are trying to run in quicksand. But what if, for some of them, someone had wanted to do good to them at one point but something happened, they messed up and lost that opportunity?
I believe life rewards work, commitment, efficiency, discipline. It also rewards foresight and good relationships.
