In whatever we do in this life, we need to try our best to be good to people. This shouldn’t be limited to only the people we know. It is something we have to extend to other people around us, in our communities, and in society at large. Life is a small world. We can never tell what we may get out of it.
Yesterday, I was discussing with a friend who had just returned from overseas, and we started talking about what had happened in the past and how some people were good to us and supported our dreams while we were growing up. We also discussed those who were not worthy, as they only cared about what they could gain instantly, talking about people who would oppress you with their positions for personal gain. We discussed how to find their contacts and reach out to them.
We also talked about those who often take advantage of students sexually and harass them. A lot of atrocities are going on in our society today that even when you hear about them, you become so dumbfounded.
We live in a world where people will mock you and oppress you for doing the right thing. You will hear people blaming the devil when they do something terrible and uncalled for. Most times, I say that people know exactly what they are doing. But the consequences of their actions are what many of them do not want to bear. They forget that there is a reaction to every action we take. For every action, there is a reaction. We say the devil made us do something when we are wrong, whereas we are the devil ourselves. Our actions, utterances, and the way we treat other people reveal it all.
We oppress those who are below us in one way or another. You will often hear something like, “Do you know who I am?” as if they are God. Some present themselves as if they will never leave this world one day. It is all vanity anyway, vanity upon vanity.
Just because all is vanity does not mean we shouldn’t live a good life and make a positive impact so that even when we are gone, people will remember us for good. In whatever we do in this life, we should try our best to leave the best legacy behind. It is better to die for the right things than to live long and still die in falsehood.
We are only a step ahead of others. At times, it is not that others are not working hard; they are just not lucky enough to be in your position. We should always try to be considerate and never look down on other people. Life is a stage, and people are in different phases too.
