Hello friends.
I'm not a wizard or a magician, I'm just learning to be one.
The ways of the Lord are inscrutable.
I took a photo of an old log almost a week ago, on which there were many traces of the larvae of the bark beetle. To be more precise, it was even so. Being three weeks ago visiting a friend at the dacha, I saw cool firewood but due to some circumstances, I was unable to take pictures of this log.
Last week I was visiting a friend again and the first thing I did was take photographs of the paths that the larvae of the bark beetle had made.
This, by the way, is a pine log. Bark beetles like to eat pine and spruce.
As a child, I had a classmate whose dad was an avid fisherman, and my friend and I went to look for bark beetles at the nearest logging base, where we could find dry logs, under the bark of which we found the larvae we needed.
A bark beetle is not just a specific beetle, but a whole group of beetles is called that.
Very often we live in the circle of our delusions. I always thought that the moves are made by beetle larvae, but it turns out that they are made by female beetles. Everything turned out to be much more complicated than one might assume.
This is a typical doll bedroom. The main move is made by the female beetle, and small moves of larvae go perpendicular to it.
Interesting fact. A female bark beetle puts a special mold under the bark of trees, which grows and becomes food for larvae. Did you know about this, friends? I found out about this fact a couple of years ago. Before that, I thought that the larvae gnaw the tree itself and the bark of the tree.
Bark beetles are terrible pests. They are capable of destroying huge forests. With a large invasion, even woodpeckers will not be able to protect the forest. In this case, it is necessary to use various means to protect trees.
Bark beetles and their larvae pose a great danger not only for trees but also for wooden buildings. In order to preserve wooden structures, they must be treated with special solutions and further monitor the condition of the building, most importantly, that they are dry.
The majority of bark beetles prefer coniferous trees. This wood is much softer than the wood of deciduous trees. But I have also met bark beetles in birch logs. But these are usually no longer living trees.
This concludes my little story about the moves that can be seen under the bark of dry trees.
In nature, everything is interconnected. On the one hand, larvae are great harm. and on the other hand, it is food for birds, in particular, these larvae are an excellent food for woodpeckers. Their beak is specially designed to extract bark beetles from a tree.
Take care of Nature. Think about future generations, friends.
