These two Scops Owl chicks arrived last week. Everything is as usual ... Local authorities cut down trees in the park and the kids lost their homes and parents. Personally, I think this is a crime! How can they do this during the breeding season of animals and birds! But many of our mayors have an ass instead of a head!
Fortunately, the kids were found and rescued by caring people. Now they live with us. They already know how to eat on their own, but they do not know how to hunt yet. Time will tell if it will be possible to return them to the wild, but I hope so.
As you can see, even adult birds of this species are small in size. The chicks are very tiny. They are about the size of an average parrot.
Until the hellish heat stops, I put them in an aviary in a summer house, where they have peace and coolness. But apparently the heat and fatigue affected me ... And I forgot to close the aviary! Imagine my shock when I came in the morning to feed them and found the aviary empty!
The good news was that the windows were closed, which meant the birds were inside. The bad news was they are tiny ...
Fortunately, almost immediately I found the first chick. He sat on the stairs and looked at me. What a relief! He did not mind at all when I took it and returned it to the aviary. He happily began to eat.
The second chick was more difficult. But as a result, I found it by sound. The chick climbed onto the windowsill and the curtain prevented him from getting out, so he began to be indignant. As a result, he, too, was returned to the aviary.
Here I put the lens cap on so you can understand the size of the bird.
