Yesterday it was super rainy - 7 inches! This morning, however, it was really sunny! Check out these photos of our place in the Highlands of Panama.
I snapped this photo of my favorite volcano just a few minutes ago, because this view wasn't visible yesterday! We had a super rainy day, but not the rainiest we have ever experienced...
Look at this chart. It rained 7.05 inches yesterday! For those who use metric, that's 17.907 cm! It was a lot of rain. Most of the day it was pouring. The most rain I've recorded in the past was around 7.5 inches, so this was pretty close.
One thing we love about our area is the pretty constant temperature throughout the year. Here was the weather this morning while I was out checking out the sunshine and levels of our creek after all the rain from yesterday. The highs every day are around 80 and the lows are in the low 60s. Sometimes it will be rainy, sometimes windy, and sometime totally sunny, but the temperature doesn't vary much.
Yesterday, there was no sun, so I was pretty glad to see it up in the sky this morning. It's currently cloudy and I'm wondering if we'll have some more rain today. More than likely we will, due to it being rainy season, but I bet it won't be as much as yesterday.
The girlie and I took a quick walk to check out the water levels of the creek this morning and noticed our shadows. She kept stomping on mine and thought it was so funny. I was glad to see my shadow after yesterday!
Our creek has a lot of water flowing through it right now, but it never got up to an amount that would look like it would overflow. We've never seen it out of its banks in the 7 years we've lived here. Even a few years ago when some hurricane bands got stuck over our area and there was major flooding, our creek didn't overflow. It made this tiny waterfall this morning though.
You can see in the photo below that the creek made a little sandbar. It also was going up over the grass - you can see how it's all laying over.
The kids said the creek had a lot of water and they wanted to swim in it, but that hasn't happened yet today. It looks pretty good, except for quite brown. Even in dry season, we always have water flowing in our creek.
While it was raining yesterday, I got on my weather station and looked at the totals for the past years to see how this year compares. Check out these totals:
142.6 inches in 2023
217.74 inches in 2022
144.90 inches in 2021
97.23 inches - current to Aug 2024
(June 2024 - 42.68 inches - highest monthly recorded on weather station)
Yes, that's a lot of rain! That's why all of us, including the chickies, were out soaking up some sun this morning! Thankfully with the volcanic soil around here, it just soaks in. We're always thankful for the rain and the sunshine!
