- For beautification
Ornamental plants are used in homes to enhance the beautify of our surroundings.
- For their pleasant smell
Many ornamental plants are chosen because they smell nice. Some fragrant plants prove beneficial in the sense that they prevent outdoor pests such as ants, mosquitoes and flies from entering one's living room.
- For cleaning the air
Without plants we wouldn't have clean air to breathe because plants create oxygen during photosynthesis.
Photosynthesis is the process whereby plants manufacture their own food through the use of sunlight. Plants take in carbon dioxide as food and release clean oxygen which is very helpful to humans.
WAYS TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR ORNAMENTAL PLANTS
- Fertilizing – You need to provide your plants with the appropriate fertilizers for strong growth. There are fertilizers of different kinds in the market for you to choose from. The cost should not be so important rather the nutrient content in relation to the needs of the plants you’re fertilizing.
- Watering – Watering the plants should be done daily, morning and evening. The amount of water will depend on the type of plant and the soil it’s planted in.
- Pruning – Maintain the shape of your ornamental plants and remove dead or infected branches by pruning.
Pruning is simply removing dead and dying parts of a plant or tree thereby allowing room for new growth.
Weed Prevention – Keeping weeds out is another part of effectively caring for your ornamentals. Weeds can compete with plants for water and nutrients in the soil.
Disease and Pest Control – During your ornamental care process, you will have to encourage healthy plants to grow and prevent the chance of damage from pests or diseases.
