This plant is known in Venezuela as beautiful at eleven o'clock, my mother says it shines at eleven o'clock and thanks to her and her love for her garden I got to know it. On my last visit to her house, I stopped as always to enjoy her flowers, she showed me excitedly how her plant was about to bloom, as it had already sprouted that little button of petals of a spectacular pink.
I was very curious to know that her flower opens in all its splendor around eleven o'clock in the morning, so I wanted to see for myself, and I took a series of photographs to photographically document this magical process.
Everything seemed to indicate that it would be a sunny morning, the sun came out very early and at 8:00 am it was already shining, usually July and August are the hottest months, where the sun is very strong in this region of the Andes. Hato de Estanques, where my mother's house is located, is an area with cold weather, especially in the afternoons, the fog is felt, but usually the mornings are quite sunny and the sky is always clear.
I took the first picture around 9 am, here we see how the bud was closed, from then on it began to open slowly, the third picture was around 10 am, its petals were open, when it was 10:30 am the sun was in all its splendor and the flower began to open completely, by 11 am the flower was already giving us its beauty completely.

Esta planta, es conocida en Venezuela, como bella a las once, mi mamá le dice brilla a las once y gracias a ella y su amor por su jardín la conocí. En mi última visita a su casa, me detuve como siempre a disfrutar de sus flores, ella me mostró emocionada como su planta estaba a punto de florecer, pues ya había brotado ese botoncito de pétalos de un rosado espectacular.
Me causo mucha curiosidad, saber que su flor se abre en todo su esplendor alrededor de las once de la mañana, entonces quise comprobarlo por mí misma, y tome una serie de fotografías, para documentar fotográficamente este mágico proceso.
Todo parecía indicar que sería una mañana soleada, el sol salió bien temprano y a las 8:00 am ya estaba resplandeciente, generalmente julio y agosto, son los meses más calurosos, donde el sol apremia en esta región de los Andes. El Hato de Estanques, lugar donde se encuentra la casa de mi madre, es una zona con clima frío, sobre todo en las tardes, la neblina se hace sentir, pero por lo general las mañanas son bastante soleadas y el cielo siempre está despejado.
La primera foto la tomé alrededor de las 9 de la mañana, aquí vemos como el botón estaba cerrado, a partir de entonces comenzó a abrirse lentamente, la tercera fotografía, fue alrededor de las 10 am, sus pétalos se notaban más abiertos, cuando se hicieron las 10:30 am el sol estaba en todo su esplendor y la flor comenzó a abrirse por completo, para las 11 am ya la flor nos regalaba su belleza por completo.

Portulaca grandiflora, this is its scientific name, is a small plant, which occurs mainly in South America, its flower is very delicate, its petals soft and sublime, its leaves are small, but thick, does not grow too much, as you see in the photographs is not too high. There are a variety of flowers of this species, pink and I have also seen them bloom yellow and pink with white, these are a beauty.
They do not need too much, as the sun does all the work, I read that it is mostly in warm climates, however, I have seen them quite a lot in the cold regions of the State of Merida, my mother is attentive to eliminate the weeds around them and to provide them with the water they need, although the afternoon and evening mist keeps them hydrated.
I consider it an ideal flower to keep and care for in the garden or hang in a pot, as it tends to spread, it spreads easily, I really like the bright color of its petals, this same day around 4 pm, I observed the flower again and I realized that its petals closed again, as who ends a working day when the sun leaves.
Portulaca grandiflora, así es su nombre científico, es una pequeña planta de la familia Portulacaceae, que se da principalmente en América del Sur, su flor es muy delicada, sus pétalos suaves y sublimes, sus hojas son pequeñas, pero gruesas, no crece demasiado, como ven en las fotografías no es demasiado alta. Existen diversidad de flores de esta especie, rosado y también las he visto florecer amarillas y rosadas con blanco, estas son una belleza.
No necesitan demasiado, pues el sol hace todo el trabajo, leí que se da sobre todo en climas cálidos, sin embargo, las he visto bastante en las regiones frías del Estado Mérida, mi madre está al pendiente de eliminar la maleza a su alrededor y de proporcionarles el agua que necesita, aunque la neblina de la tarde y de la noche, las mantiene hidratadas.
Considero que es una flor ideal, para conservar y cuidar en el jardín o colgar en una maceta, ya que suele extenderse, se propaga con facilidad, me gusta mucho el brillante color de sus pétalos, este mismo día cerca de las 4 de la tarde, observe de nuevo la flor y me di cuenta de que sus pétalos se cerraron de nuevo, como quien termina una jornada laboral al marcharse el sol.
