Very good morning, Katy, thanks for the pass. We are here with Paz Sophia, in her garden of Eden, she is our interviewee and she will talk to us about the importance of treating turtles as a pet in our home.
Good morning Mrs. Paz, how are you?
Miss, I'm barely 4 years old and for a species like me that lasts more than 100 years, I'm just in diapers-__.
The Queen of that paradise replied, eating.
-Oh, excuse me then," said the hummingbird-journalist, flapping her wings, "Tell me, how is your life here in the garden prepared by the human?
Paz stops eating for a moment and turns to the girl:
- My human Teresa, she is good- And continues eating.
The journalist is a little upset, is that all? She thought.
I see." Completes the girl, noting. And her routine here, what's it like?
Ah! Now that's a good question- _The tortoise stopped eating and started her speech:
I wake up very early, when the sun rises; in Teresa's house pots start to clatter, and I already know that my food is coming that way. _Pausing - _I wait up for her, but she has a very strange ritual- _And she stares off into the distance - She talks and talks.... She bathes me, puts water on me, and goes on talking - she caresses my paws, as if checking if they are healthy, my head Carolina-colibri noticed a confused face.
And that bothers you? she asks.
_I don't know how to answer you... I have heard from the Mickey family, when they visit me, that in the neighbouring houses they keep my sisters locked up in dirty cages, they feed them bad food and don't give them water.... My human is not like that.
-She knows I like milkweed and pumpkin. Sometimes she wants to trick me by putting other things on me, but I leave them there because I don't like them. She gives me water, and sometimes she takes me out into the garden, where it is beautiful but dangerous because there are little animals that want to kill my little legs, so she keeps an eye out to make sure they don't come near me.
And the tortoise finishes by saying
Carolina-colibri was touched by his words and said to him:
I have one last question for you: what would you say to the other little turtle sisters who will see you?
That I am very lucky to have my Teresa. She understands me, gives me what I want and keeps me away from the danger outside. I wish my little sisters would get a human as good as mine, who understands that we are just as perfect a companion and that we can last for many years when we are treated with lots of love. I love my human and she loves me. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to start eating bags or rocks so that she will come to my aid and take me home, because I don't like to be outside too much-__ Paz turns and leaves.
Paz turns and leaves.
And that's the end of our report for Canal Colibri, Carolina says goodbye and goes back to the studios.
Every May 23rd, World Turtle Day is celebrated as an act of awareness of the importance of treating every living creature with the same respect that any defenceless animal deserves.
In many countries, they are hunted for their eggs, to be used as exotic foods or are left uncared for like any other pet. Sometimes, in homes, they are left in the sun or for long periods without water. As they make no sound, it is difficult to protest or complain. This is inhumane and even classified as mistreatment.
My Paz will complain about too much love but not about neglect🐢🌱💞.
She has been with me for three years and I hope she lasts many more, because for me she is a living being and I love her as my pet.
The photographs are my property.
And thanks to the wonderful team of talent meeting for allowing me to show the way I love the planet, giving love back in the care I have for this creature that nature gave me. The beautiful gift of life and the meaning of caring for them.
Because anyone can have animals, but pets, those that reflect kindness, compassion, joy and wisdom (because they teach us with their deeds), are few, so if you have one at home, take care of it. They came into this world before us. The planet belongs to them.
— No sé responderte...
Yo quiero a mi humana y ella a mí.
