Wood sandpiper looking for food at the lake shore

Wood sandpipers are common small waders here in Austria and I have already seen them on several spots here in Austria. Especially during the bird migration a lot of birds pass by and rest at rivers and lakes. But since a lot of its habitats are destroyed the numbers are declining. During Autumn/winter time they migrate to Africa where they spend their winter and in spring they fly back to northern Europe and spend the summer there. On both of these migratory events some of them pass Austria and stay here at the rivers and lakes for some time to rest and fill up their reserves for the migration.
