Three plants that attract butterflies or nutritious plants.
I thought butterflies would fly over any plant that caught their attention and as I am reading about the wonderful things that happen in my garden I can see some events that I didn't know about before I met these plants.
I now have three plants in my garden that are used by the butterflies for their garden tour and especially plants that exert a certain attraction on butterflies...
Turnera Ulmifolia:
or Golden Carnation. It is a yellow flower native to Central America and the Caribbean. Its leaves are dark green and have many branches. The plant can reach a height of one and a half meters.
Its beautiful yellow flowers attract butterflies to the point that they lay their eggs on this plant and when the caterpillars hatch they eat everything in their path. The plant is left with all its branches without leaves and resembles a plant skeleton.
Then these caterpillars are lost to transform into chrysalises, but I have not seen where they hide for their transformation.
Zinnias:
or paper flower, are plants that butterflies love but they don't leave their eggs there. I was taking the photos from very close and I can see how in the center of the flower its pistils are like new flowers, dozens of them in the shape of a crown make a beautiful internal detail that is not possible to see with the naked eye. This plant loves the sun.
Cosmos sulphureus:
are charming with their varied colors. Butterflies and other insects never fail to land on their beautiful flowers.
It is a plant that has a very striking deep yellow flower. Although she can have other colors this particular one is the only one I have in my garden...for now. She loves sun exposure and this is where she thrives on an evergreen shrub.
I hope you have enjoyed the brief discussion of my three butterfly plants.
