It's been a long and busy week for me at work due to the upcoming Barangay and SK Elections (BSKE). This week is the scheduled filing of a Certificate of Candidacy for those who want to run for a certain position in different Barangays within our municipality. I was assigned to monitor the candidates who filed and what are the positions they were running for (for accounting).
I wanted to replenish my energy and refuel my tired brain cells. As and I are chatting at their shants, we have decided to take a glimpse at nature and have a breath of fresh air even just a little time. I would not lie that I haven't known some areas of our community, so this made me excited to explore a little part of our community.
Start of our journey
Never forget water for rehydration
The weather is so perfect, we will not be worried about sunburn. But we still bring our umbrellas (just in case). Today we will be walking around our community. The kids are also excited about coming with us.
As we enter into another Purok of our barangay, we can't stop but lay our eyes on this scenic view of the well-known "Little Batanes" from afar. Another attraction that you can visit in our community.
A Small Village
We then went through this small village and I felt at peace, for it was very quiet as if no one was living in this place. A very relaxing and peaceful place to live. We are walking through calmly.
The Pathway
This is the path we are taking, a single lane that only footsteps can pass through, the only way to get to another village. You need to fall in line and if you want to go first or someone at the front going in the opposite direction, you need to step on the cogon grass.
A very old well
I couldn't believe there was still an existing deep well like this old. As we went near the well, I felt goosebumps and I couldn't stop myself from looking at the carvings on the stone as it wrote 11/18/45. According to locals, this well is their only means of water supply for drinking, bathing, washing, and sometimes for laundry. The locals need to fetch water from the well, fill their containers and bring it home.
The kids are amazed at seeing this thing because the new generation never experienced this thing. They were born in this world with water coming from faucets already inside their houses. They just have to turn on and water comes splashing. No hassle, you just have to pay for monthly bills of your consumptions.
The well now has minimal, dark-coloured water which only means it cannot be utilized anymore. No one is fetching water from this well. The people in the village were supported by a water supply directly to their houses. Pipes are attached to the consumers coming from a source and run through pump machines so they can reach every house in the village.
A single wood bridge
We've found a sole chunk of thick wood laid on the ground as a bridge. No railings which may cause danger to the youngsters if we force them to cross the bridge. To the villagers, this is their means to cross to the other part and to avoid them falling into the river, they slowly and carefully cross this wood. This bridge is still functioning and we have seen some students cross the bridge without fear and hesitation.
Into the River
I am struggling going down to the river, for I only have to hold on to these tiny branches of the tree. Stepping into the stones with extra care because you'll never know the stability of the stones.
Finally, a touch of cold water runs through the village. It may not be so clean but it's still flowing and giving life to the trees in the surroundings.
Oh! That relaxing melody of the flowing water with the chorus of singing birds and the waves of the leaves and branches of the trees. I am renewed and replenished. I have gained my vitality.
Realization
In life, we are facing a challenging world but no matter what, it depends on how we face it. We may forgotten by the people who used to be us like the old well, but we have to stand still and believe in ourselves that even if they left, we could still surpass challenges on our own.
That would be all for my blog. Hope you enjoy reading.
