All day yesterday two hawks were circling the skies over our neighborhood. Today, we (and half the neighbors) noticed one sitting low in the tree outside our back patio.
An account from one of the neighbors let us know that their nest was a couple blocks over high in a tree. Early yesterday morning, the nest fell from its tall perch. We all assume from the reaction of the hawks that they had young ones as well.
Not How I Wanted To Capture This Hawk
I've been wanting to get a decent close up of at least one of these hawks since we moved here a few months back. They're usually patrolling the skies over the canyon behind our townhouse. With my Galaxy S10, it's not possible to get pictures on the wing from that distance.
Today I did the best I could in full zoom and with grey skies in the backdrop. The grey at least fits the mood this hawk is in.
I took a few color photos from a bit of a distance then switched to a more colorless filter. You can still see some good detail of what I believe is a Red Tailed Hawk. Please correct me if you know otherwise.
Since the day is grey and overcast anyway, the black and white seemed a good choice. Here's the hawk below showing its profile from behind.
One last colorless pic. You can just see the birds head blending into the leaves above.
I sure hope this hawk and its partner are able to get by together. It sounds like they're grieving for now as they aren't doing any hunting. Though I hope it's not the case, I fear it may be. We'll keep our eyes on them and for now and make sure they get along ok. Though I don't know how we could help.
