Walking through any region with flowers makes one want to sing with joy, deep seated satisfaction derived in simple joy being surrounded by colours, perfumes, shared with not only the butterflies and bees.
Blyde Protea or Protea laetans a summer rainfall Protea growing in the Drakensberg is the closest species of Protea I could identify with, only used for firewood (which is a cause for concern threatening wild plants), no medicinal purposes. SA People - Proteas
It matters not the stature it all boils down to delight, whether standing alone or playfully waving their blooms together in a massive cluster of beauty.
Moraea huttonii - African Iris stands about 120 cm tall fully established aparently reach 1 meter. With three Moraea in South Africa, this was flowering in October may be the Moraea huttonii, consisting of no specific medicinal uses. Moraea
The Moraea spathulata flowering in November is used to treat infertility in traditional medicines or used to make ropes. Third is Moraea reticulata flowering in February with no known uses either.
Ability to grow in a charming garden, or rough it out on rocky ridges, close to the ground or reaching up on high, some may last a lot longer each has an ability to thrive, feed, nourish before the day is done.
Close to the water but not on the lake a mass of Yellow flag iris plants - Iris pseudacorus standing 1 - 2 meters tall, very much taller than our local African iris. This plant needs to be watched or removed being invasive, removing the plant may cause skin irritation. Grand display being a large patch all together in the center of a lawn.
How similar flowers can look, each different never the same, beauty in the eye of the beholder, I hope these flowers bring a little joy in a time when not everyone is feeling as bright and cheerful, today smiling flowers may be gone tomorrow.
