Southern Drakensberg Region Under The Spotlight Over The Years

No it's not snowing currently being mid summer, after being asked the question about snow in South Africa, I thought perhaps some photography over the years with evidence would be a great ice-breaker, yes we do get snow!
Lets go back to 2006 with an old Olympus Digital Camera capturing the snow in the mountain peaks, yes we wish to see it on the ground, always miss it by a couple of days.
Snow seldom falls during winter, for some reason end of winter going into spring is when you more often than not will be able to enjoy powdery white fall.
30th September 2006 reference to date of photography, I do remember it being an odd evening cold then turning warmer, on opening the curtains in the morning to the sight of snow everyone poured out forgetting the cold, yes gob smacked not something we do get to see very often.
First photograph once the cloud had lifted around mid-morning still enjoying coffee and looking at the view. Garden Castle with Rhino Peak to right of photograph in the Drakensberg 2006.
Cleared of cloud with sunshine around midday we decided to climb in the car (facing gravel for 30 kilometers those day), travel to Underberg then out to Himeville to see the farming district
Along this road one gets some higher view points where one can see Giants Castle starting to show, also note the end of winter, some farmers do water holding the ground green. Brown patch has not been watered for agriculture and is quite normal before rainfalls arrive.
Canon PowerShot A530 - 1st October 2009 some of the photography not to repeat too much here being the same region.
One can see the weather is confused, Poplar Trees are climbing into fresh leaves with change back to winter conditions for them.
Late afternoon cloud rising from the valley floor, sun goes down behind the mountain range, which is actually an escarpment reaching the land of Lesotho.
Canon PowerShot A530 - 4th October 2011
Glen Garry Golf Course Restaurant where you can enjoy a breakfast or lunch with full view!
Umzimkulu River runs down through Castle Garden in the Southern Drakensberg a brilliant place to relax after a hike into the foothills of the region. Trout fishing a few kilometers down the road another experience some do enjoy.
All photography is taken in the Southern Drakensberg Peaks with Rhino Peak being the featured in most photography, this is not the highest peak in the region.
Will be returning, all going well around the same time this year, perhaps the snow will meet me in the valley below!
Thought for Today: " "If you wish to move mountains tomorrow, you must start by lifting stones today". - African proverb
All photography is my own taken over the years with various cameras.
