I walked farther than ever yesterday. I don’t know how far I could have gone, but I may have had 30km as well. I couldn’t wait to leave the city, the residential area and the concrete sidewalks. It makes me happy to feel natural soil under my feet: be it grass, rock, sand, or even mud. At such times, I am not tired because it recharges with energy. If I go through a wet place, no matter how cold, I take off my shoes and step into the water. However, it is recommended to wear shoes in this area!
The granite hills near Székesfehérvár belong to the Velence mountains. Not covered with dense forest but only rock lawn and bushes. Unsuitable for cultivation, but good enough for the sheep pasture. This is the case when human activity is in symbiosis with nature. The shepherds who live here love nature, the sheep do not destroy the vegetation, they only act as lawn mowers and feed the soil with their manure.
I met a young shepherd, his dog ran to me and greeted very friendly. I praised his sheep and lambs. He said the lambs were born a week ago and going to sell them in August. Well, I think they’re going to go to Italy, where people really like lamb with rosemary. I was a little saddened to see these merrily jumping lambs. Until the last moment they'll have no idea what awaits them. But I know he makes a living from lamb, he supports his family with the money he'll get from these animals.
It was already 3 o'clock in the afternoon when I had to decide whether to go further and further away from the city or stay a little longer with the sheep and then go home. My mind longed back to the city, but my heart was stronger, whispering me go even further.
A feeling of happiness flooded me, I am alone but not lonely, I extend my spiritual limitations and I am free. I didn’t feel my body needed any food, I just drank water. The barren landscape became greener, I arrived the area of wobbling stones.
Barely two weeks ago, even on weekdays, there were plenty of tourists here, now no one. Only butterflies!
And, of course, flowers.
At the big rocks, I sat down on the moss-covered ground. I could only hear the birds singing and the light breeze whispering.
At last no one jumped on the stones!
I was so happy with the grass!
It was time to head back, but I had to decide whether to go home by bus or on foot.
I chose the latter, and frankly, I didn’t know what I was undertaking.
But before that, I was part of another miracle: I managed to photograph rabbits! Rabbits are very common here, with piles of feces indicating that there are many thousands of them.
Yet it is very difficult to observe them because they blend in their environment with grey or brown camouflage. This is also necessary to be motionless, because birds of prey are constantly circling over them.
Hunters say rabbits are harmful, so they installed traps. This method is unacceptable and outrageous to me. Rather, their natural enemies should be given more space.
I approach the city, but a stream crosses my path. The other side is impenetrable scrub. No problem, I’m going on, but not towards the main road, I’d rather avoid traffic in a big curve.
I find a small bridge, the city is close by, but my home is far away yet.
Arriving in the city, I didn’t know it would be almost an hour and a half to get home, all the way through concrete and asphalt. I get heavy, tired as I step on the concrete road, so far I have had nothing wrong. The pain in my soles is getting worse. This part of the city is incomprehensible to me. Long streets that are barely connected to each other. There is hardly a crossroad to get in the right direction. It got dark by the time I got home very-very tired. With 30 km in my legs!
