Lake Velencei is almost completely frozen, only small areas are still free. Birds, especially gulls, have less space and food and where people appear, they gather in the hope of a few snacks. Three swans and some ducks also appeared in the noisy and demanding company, but they watched calmly as the gulls, much smaller than them, quarreled and squaked. These gulls are barely larger than pigeons but they fly at least as well. They are even able to steal food from your hand. Since I was hungry I ate a "lángos" (deep fried flat bread made of a dough with flour, yeast, salt and water) but I went long way from the birds.
I looked for this species of bird, this is the common black-headed gull. Why isn't its head black now? Because it has winter plumage, it will only be dark in summer.
Here are some photos of them, photographed on the fly.
This is my snack, not yours!
A moment's rest on the pier
Food on the horizon!
Ice is their runway
They float easily with their wing feathers
Barely a few square meters of free water surface
Swans are calm
Ducks also have fun in the water
They are also happy to bask on the grassy beach.
