It’s barely half an hour’s walk and I’m already out on the hillside meadow. It is full of fragrant herbs, lots of insects and cows in parts surrounded by an electric fence. The landscape is like mosaic, with smaller and larger forests and oak groves alternating with grassy areas. I had to take care of the electric fence. I never know if it’s energized at that very moment. Once really pinched me when I wanted to pet a horse's head, and my son rolled away with laughter as I was jumping like a goat and shouting like a fool.
What makes this landscape so hilly?
For many, many millions of years, shallow sea rippled in this area, and dunes formed at the bottom. When the sea receded, the hills remained. Meanwhile, some volcanoes erupted. When the sea receded, the hills remained. Meanwhile, some volcanoes have erupted, so we can find the remains of volcanic cones in the area. Castles were built on these rocks in the Middle Ages, but unfortunately few of them remained until now.
