Bilimbi is a kind of pickled fruit. These, of course, can be cooked as a vegetable, that is, eaten as a vegetable. They can even be used to make delicious sauces or pickles. We have a big bilimbi tree in our house and it has a lot of fruit. However, the bilimbi tree in our house can be seen to catch bilimbi almost all the year round.
There is a great demand for this fruit in our area. Of course in our house it is most used as a vegetable and pickles are made with ripe bilimbi. These bilimbis tend to be much larger in size.
The fruits are green in color and look a lot like cylinders. These are in great demand in the market. Many people cook sour as a vegetable and buy it to eat. But there are exceptions. Especially in rural areas, many people think that eating them causes various diseases. So many people in rural areas refrain from eating them. Although I do not know true-false or reliable information.
However, our trees have a lot of yield. But we can't finish eating them because we have less family members or because some of our family members don't like sour food. However, sometimes these are quite good to eat raw with a mixture of pepper powder and salt. Again, many people make different types of raw mash with these and eat them.
So many large-sized bilimbi mature in the tree and spread under the tree. Again, many of them take bilimbi from the tree at will. Again, many of us are reluctant to take if we want to give a lot of bilimbi. But the funny thing is that I have two nephews who are about a year and a half old. They take bilimbi from the base of the tree and eat them. Of course, if we ask them, they say they don't pickle.
However, most of our trees bilimbi are damaged and fall down. However, sometimes many people take raw bilimbi to remove dirt from the clothes. Cloth stains rub it or the stains go away but I never got the result. However, many people take bilimbi from our tree to remove facial scars. The reason is that this tree is not seen in the houses around us.
