The Largest Rodent in the World
It is the largest rodent in the world and the only one of its kind, it is herbivorous, grazes in herds and lives in a highly organized social structure and in a specific territory, they live near water, they reach sexual maturity before they are two years old, they are very fertile. In Venezuela we find them in different regions of our country: the eastern and central plains, in the Orinoco River, Barlovento, Miranda state, among others, here they are protected by the Ministry of the Environment through the Wildlife Plan. Their protection is due to indiscriminate hunting, they are hunted to commodify their meat, which is highly prized on the black market, it is rich in protein, low in fat and 100% organic.
Thanks to this Plan, the norm limits that it cannot be hunted in wild areas, but only raised on authorized farms, which also have regulations to market their meat. In some National Parks we can see them in captivity for display and study. Many people who visit these parks, whether they are students or scientists, come to observe their behavior and temperament, respecting the appropriate measures and their habitat.

El Roedor más Grande del Mundo
Es el roedor más grande del mundo y único en su especie, es herbívoro, pasta en manadas y vive en una estructura social muy organizada y en un territorio específico, ellos habitan cerca del agua, logran su madurez sexual antes de los dos años son muy fértiles. En Venezuela los encontramos en diferentes regiones de nuestro país: los llanos orientales y centrales, en el río Orinoco, Barlovento estado Miranda, entre otras, aquí están protegidos por el Ministerio del Ambiente a través del Plan de Fauna Silvestre. Su protección se debe a la caza indiscriminada, los cazan para mercantilizar su carne que es muy preciada en el mercado negro, esta es rica en proteína, es baja en grasa y es 100% orgánica.
Gracias a este Plan, la norma acota que no puede ser cazado en áreas silvestres, sino que sólo criados en granjas autorizadas, que también tienen una reglamentación para comercializar su carne. En algunos Parques Nacionales los podemos ver en cautiverio para su exhibición y para su estudio, muchas personas que visitan estos parques sean estudiantes o científicos vienen a observar su comportamiento y temperamentos, respetando las medidas adecuadas y su hábitat.
