Venezuela's natural potential is incalculable; starting from species that are still there waiting to be discovered, both flora and fauna.
Venezuela has 45 national parks and 36 natural monuments, among which is the enigmatic Waraira Repano National Park. Named after the Caracas Indians, which means "the wave that came from far away". This is the natural lung of the busy and popular city of Caracas.
Today I want to share with you these beautiful photos that a friend gave me as a gift; very specially for my blog.
In the first one you can see a nice shot of the National Park, pride of all Caracas; where for the moment the weather was very kind to those mountain hikers while in the second one we found this beautiful surprise: a rhinoceros beetle. Usually, people underestimate how strong and important these insects are in their natural habitat. They fulfill the function of recycling and keeping our planet clean, they are completely harmless to humans, in fact; they maintain biological control of pests and allow us to conserve our soils.
I mentioned that it is a very strong insect since it can carry 900 times more than its body weight. It is so called because of its horn in the center, having a resemblance to this huge mammal to which it is referred to. Although the horn is used not only to eliminate obstacles in their way but also to attract mates and if necessary fight with other males.

El potencial natural de Venezuela es incalculable; empezando desde especies que continúan ahí esperando ser descubiertas, tanto de flora, como de fauna.
Venezuela cuenta con 45 parques nacionales y 36 monumentos naturales; dentro de los cuales está el enigmático Parque Nacional Waraira Repano. Denominado así por los indígenas Caracas que significa "la ola que vino desde lejos". Este es el pulmón natural de la ciudad tan concurrida y popular como Caracas.
Hoy quiero compartir con ustedes estas hermosas fotos, que me obsequió un amigo; muy especialmente para mi blog. En la primera podrán observar una linda toma del Parque Nacional, orgullo de todo caraqueño; donde para el momento el clima era muy gentil con aquellos practicantes de senderismo de montaña mientras que en la segunda nos encontramos con esta hermosa sorpresa: un escarabajo rinoceronte. Por lo general, la gente subestima lo fuerte e importante que es este tipo de insectos en su hábitat natural. Ellos cumplen la función de reciclar y mantener limpio nuestro planeta, son completamente inofensivos para los humanos, de hecho; mantienen el control biológico de las plagas y permiten conservar nuestros suelos.
Mencioné que es un insecto muy fuerte ya que puede alcanzar a cargar 900 veces más que su peso corporal. Se le llama así debido a su cuerno que tiene en el centro, teniendo parecido con este enorme mamífero al cual se le hace referencia. Aunque el cuerno lo utilizan no solo para eliminar obstáculos en su camino sino también para atraer parejas y de ser necesario pelear con otros machos.
