We are enjoying the Indian summer these days. It's just that the days are shorter and at night it is cooling down. The sun, the clear sky, the high temperatures make the autumn flowers to flourish and all insects to race to feed on their nectar. Life is booming again. For how long, I really don't know.
Near the office there is a small grass area. The grass was regularly trimmed, like the rest on the factory yard. However, when new colleague arrived in the office, she not only decorated her desk with flower pots. She made a garden outside where the grass area is. Each day at lunch time she spends her time planting flowers and looking after them. I, on the other hand make pictures of the flowers. And not only of them as you can see.
This week the warm weather pulled me out of the office at noon and since there were not many birds to see I was pleasantly surprised by the abundance of life of my mate's garden. Bees buzzing, butterflies and moths along with other insects frantically were flying around. To my delight they stopped for much longer on the flowers.
Actually it was the first time ever to capture butterfly and bee together.
It was like they knew the warm days will not last long and soon all be grey and cold. They were in a hurry and paid no attention of what was going on around them.
This flower is called cosmos and grows high. It seems to be among the favourate in the insect world.
It attracts also moths, something I haven't seen either. And besides this moth I also saw for the first time. It is called Silver Y (Autographa gamma). The name comes from the white mark on each forewing in a shape of a letter Y, or gamma in Greek. It took me some time to see that the mark really look like this letter.
The moth got no special preferences and attack even the withering flower.
There were no single flower left unattended.
These photos I took on Friday. But I was also making pictures on Thursday and here is what I got. One lucky shot of Hummingbird hawk-moth. If you have seen it, you know how fast this moth is, the name says it all.
More bees. By the way I have no macro lens and all shots are made with the telelens. I was looking for birds, but found insects. So I aimed to capture them in flight and to focus mainly on the flying bees.
And another hungry butterfly.
For a moment I felt like it is spring time and not bloody November. We had some temperature records in some places. I don't know what the weather shall be next week, but I will take the camera with me, you never know what can be seen.
That is all for now. Hope you have a nice weekend. Stay safe!
