A perfectly calm Sunday morning is the best time for an open water, surf beach swim.
Haven't been out for a while so was only able to do 800m, especially since I was backing it up after a 10km run.
Out the back, just behind the breaking surf between the beach rescue flags, it felt safe enough as to be seen and to still see others. Yet it was far enough away to be able see the amazing nature swimming just below me as l swum up and down the beach.
Didn't see anything super exciting but the pristine, clear water made fantastic viewing of schools of small fish.
Small fish usually mean bigger fish and even sharks might not be too far away but the lifesaver patrols are now running drones up and down popular swim areas.
Never saw or heard the drone while l was out there but saw the guys and girls operating it when l was finished.
