December the 21st, the Solstice, with our longest night then the light begins to return. This brings a sense of relief to me as I feel I made it thru the darkest time!
It also signifies the start of the winter season. Actually winter came for us back with the November full moon which bought a massive snow dump and drop of temperatures.

This last full moon, known as the cold moon (and cold it was as our temperatures dropped into the -30 Celsius range) was the longest full moon of the year being so close to the winter solstice date it was out for over 15 hours. I caught some good pictures just as it was setting behind the pine trees.

And now onto our winter wonderland! Winters are cold here but they sure can be beautiful!
The image below is of our house surrounded by snow covered trees.
Snowy Scene Around Our Yard
Our well house looks like a cabin in the snowy woods. We used straw bale construction for our well house and have a heat light running under the cover of the well to keep it from freezing.

Bruno our German Shepard dog doesn't mind the snow and loves to go for a run-a-bout down the lane. Here he spied something in the bush.
