Our country is pretty small in size but it's a rich land of biodiversity. The flora always amazes me.
A few days ago, when I visited my maternal grandparent's house, I saw many different trees in the area that I didn't see before or was not familiar with.
Today I'm going to introduce such a large tree to you.
This tree is called Monkey jack, locally known as Deua. The tree is about 2-18 m in height. The bark of the deciduous tree is grey and coarse. The inside of the fruit is similar to jackfruit but it's smaller in size and can fit in the palm of our hand.
I found this in the front yard of the house. The shape of the tree attracts me the most. And I was surprised to see how the custard apple tree was growing depending on this tree.
Back then, when we were a child; there was not much-imported fruit. I can remember, we used to eat this monkey jack fruit often. Also, this was a very common tree. But now, even if you search the market you will hardly find any fruit. Because people don't like the taste of this anymore. They are much more comfortable eating imported/foreign fruit and probably I'm not an exception.
Honestly, it was a pleasure to see the tree. It felt like I have meet someone very old after some long long years.
I came to know that this tree is over 100 years old, my grandparents planted this while building the house. This piece of info fascinates me the most.
