Have you ever tried to asked yourself?
What Cebu has to offer?
Cebu, from the wide deep blue sea to the vast mountain ranges, Cebu has it all.
The one that Cebu can offer aside from its economic growth was Mt. Kan-irag a go to place of every Cebuano’s like me. It may seem easy to go to its peak because it was just located near the city and Mt. Kan-irag only stands its peak for about 720 meters above sea level or 2,362 feet. But don’t underestimate the trail going up to Mt. Kan-irag.
Here’s the side of my story as a first-time hiker of Mt. Kan-irag.
We packed our Bags. Excited. Ready to go. Not even wondering what are we up to. Just wandering. Only our enthusiasm that took us there. How are we able to make it? Are we even capable?
But here we are. Taking Mt. Kan-irag to the next level.
From Sunny Hills Talamban we hailed a motorcycle taxi going to Sitio Baogo. From there we started trekking around 10 AM and we reached the peak around 5 PM. Yes, we took that long, 7 hours of walk was a bet exhausting yet we have an urged to reach the summit.
We stopped by at the near falls which was the Kabang Falls the view was superb. We took our time to rest and eat lunch there. We just brought food and snacks along the trails. After, we all decide to continue our journey because it’s a long way to go. Were never even half way through the trail.
Having our lunch.
Felt exhausted during the hike because I brought a tent that is good for 5 persons and it was so heavy. But that just it, no one told us to go to. Some others would say, I should be watching Netflix by now. My other friend was also carrying a 5 liters of bottles water. We all keep on complaining but keep on going.
River crossing was fun but really exhausting. Jumping from on rock to another. Felt being a kid again. We took our time take a photo. But the main purpose of it was taking a rest. Because our backpacks were all full of snacks that made our bags heavier.
Another Stop Over. Finally, we saw a small convenient store along the way. We quinches our thirst. We refuel our energy. And again, picture time. At that state were really tired, felt bad for ourselves that we didn’t even go for a jog, a week before to qualify our strength. Look at us now. Took us 7 hours of hike. But the best thing is we’re almost there.
After a long break, we continued...
At this part, it’s another ascend all the way to the peak. It’s a bet challenging, but were closer. Were all hoping to reach the peak before sundown, unfortunately, we didn’t make it were even slower than before the hike started.
After a long day of walk…
We finally reached the summit.
Look at the view.
And when the night falls down.
We prepared our foods.
After. We socialized, we laughed and talked about life.
When the place was covered by darkness and were about to sleep. A strong wind with heavy rain struck us. From laughter that turns to sadness. Because were not able to pitched our tent properly. So, the 5 of us put our feet at the edge of the tent to strengthen the foundation. In order, that our tent will not be flown away. After that fear some moment, we decided to go out to see what happened with the other campers. Unfortunately, we can’t see clearly due to the fog. We just continued to sleep. To replenish our strengths.
5:00 AM Wake up call, Sunrise chasing.
Cold weather is bed weather. But need to get up to prepare.
And its Spam time. One of the most common packed foods during a camp aside from eggs.
Just look what we did on our tent. We made it as a groundsheet. That's the perks of a feeling camper that was unable to pitched tent properly.
And with that we need to say our goodbyes to the mountain as we embark ourselves with the new experience we acquired. Indeed unforgettable. Worth remembering.
Those sleepless night, body pains after the hike, it was SATISFYING.
