Isn't this alarming ?
Just when I was thinking, my plants will now grow better and we will see flowers soon, this news of Cyclone Jawad came in. I usually do not watch TV or news but my mother always watches news and she did not make me sit in peace. She wanted me to collect all the fruits from trees - the reason being, at least it will make the tree light weight and thus will save the tree. We are 60 km away from the coast and initially the news was like the wind speed would be very high in the range of 100 - 150 km, and it can turn into a disaster. Having experienced so many cyclones, we always try to take precautions, but I am surprised, no one really worries about why so frequently we are getting them. Isn't there a reason for it ? In my entire life, this is the year, where I have seen maximum number of low pressure situations. The winter has never been like this.
This one particular tree was having it's first fruit and few days back I brought couple of them, as they were ripen showing yellow. These desi breeds are tastier than the hybrid ones. The only problem with these is that the trees gets so big that, its literally difficult to get them. I am thinking to plant some of these near the house, so that, I will get them from the roof. Also planning to plant the dwarf hybrid ones. I am a big fan of Papaya - I like to eat them everyday - makes digestive system better.
There was another tree, which was not reachable - I had to climb through the roof with much difficulty to get those Papayas.
We have several trees in the backwards, but before we see and get them, the big monitor lizards take care of them - yes, we have almost every species surrounding us - they are so big that ( I would imagine may be around more than 10 kg), one can get scared. A lady staying on rent heard some noise from their movements in the night and thought a ghost is there. After experiencing it few times, she called her husband to put lights to only discover these big monitor lizard. I have tried to capture them on lens, but they run quite fast when they see us or hear our foot steps.
The bats let us know that our apple berries are ready to eat. I posted about it recently, little did I know, there are ripen ones inside. But they got some and we found out remaining of few apple berries in our surroundings, so Mom wanted me to go and check. Here is our first yield - there must be a lot inside, I will go and collect more after this weather clears. Someone was asking me how to eat them - we just eat them raw directly - few from the tree itself - yes they are so tempting. I cut them here to show how it looks inside.
And I will not need to buy these papayas for few days - if you do not know, then wrapping them in newspapers ripens them fast - they need hot climate and in winter, wrapping few newspapers will do the trick.
Mom made all the preparations - she has prepared batters of several types only to know few hours back that the cyclone has weakened - thanks to the accurate prediction of the met department. But I really like the way she thinks at this age of 71 - necessity has taught her everything in childhood and it won't change forever. We have some raw bananas growing very high and she even made me cut bamboos to give them support. She asked a thin guy staying on rent to cut those bananas - a fun about which I will do my next post.
