This little sparrow is the last one in the nest and he has watched his siblings fly the coop. However, this little guy is very reluctant to leave the safety of the birdhouse.
Mom has been busily feeding them since they hatched. It has been a few weeks since I first heard the little one's faint chirps.
Every time one of the parents flies off to retrieve another morsel the young sparrow sits in the opening looking for them. As you can see, it is not much further before it is totally out of the nest.
The mother is doing her best to coaks him out but to no avail so far this morning.
Even the father steps up to the plate and does his part to try and get it to follow him. You can tell the baby really wants to be with him but look how far down that is, ;-)
The mother is getting more aggressive and tries to get the bird out far enough for the wings to get past the opening. Once that happens it will have no choice but to fly. She was persistent for most of the morning in encouraging her baby to be brave.
Before I realized it the baby flew out of the nest to follow its mother. It was finally graduation day and I snapped a picture just in time before it flew out of view.
I was so thrilled to actually see one leave the birdhouse as they usually do it when I am not on the porch watching the whole process.
It was getting close to lunchtime so I decided to go inside and prepare something for myself. When I returned to the porch about half an hour later, guess what I saw? I could hardly believe my eyes but I guess it was time to start the cycle all over again. I would have to say, no rest for the weary, lol.
