Hola a todos los amantes de la naturaleza! Hoy me sumo a participar en el concurso Amazing Nature Contest#04 con las fotografías de este maravilloso Milpiés que me encontré en casa.

When I was a child, my brothers, 4 boys older than me and 2 younger than me, bothered me with these worms and told me that if one of them entered my ear I would have 7 hours to live. This invention of my brothers disturbed me and I was terrified of these little friends. By that time I was about 7 years old and cried every time I saw a millipede. When I grew up I realized that they were just little worms that now I like to see their tiny legs and their movement.

Cuando era niña, mis hermanos, 4 varones mayores que yo y 2 menores que yo, me molestaban con estos gusanos y me decían que si uno de ellos entraba por mi oído tendía 7 horas de vida. Este invento de mis hermanos me perturbaba y les tenía terror a estos pequeños amigos. Para esa época tendría unos 7 años y lloraba cada vez que veía un milpiés. cuando crecí me di cuenta que solo eran unos pequeños gusanos que ahora me gusta ver sus diminutas patitas y su desplazamiento.

The body of this worm has a rigid cover, consists of multiple rounded segments, when the worm is threatened it coils until the danger passes, it can also expel a liquid with an unpleasant odor that usually drives away its predators. They belong to the family of diplopods. Although I don't know how many legs they have, they are popularly known as millipedes because of the two pairs of short legs they have on each side. Common millipedes grow from 1/2 to 2 inches (1.27 cm to 5.08 cm) long. They are usually brown in color, slowly moving.

El cuerpo de este gusano tiene una cubierta rígida, consta de múltiples segmentos redondeados, cuando en gusano se ve amenazado se enrosca hasta que pasa el peligro, también puede expulsar un liquido con un olor desagradable que por lo general, aleja a sus depredadores. Son pertenecientes a la familia de los diplópodos Aunque no sé cuantas patas tiene es conocido popularmente como milpiés por las dos pares de patas cortas que tiene a cada lado. Los milpiés comunes crecen de 1/2 a 2 pulgadas (1,27 cm a 5,08 cm) de largo. Generalmente son de color marrón, lentamente se desplazan.

They feed on decomposing organic matter. Their activity begins at night. It is after 6 pm when the sun goes down that they can be seen, also during the day, especially in cool and dark places.
Lately I have been seeing a lot of these friends everywhere I am. So I decided to share these photos.

These friends inhabit mostly in the garden and wherever they can have humidity and some decaying tree leaves. But it is common for them to enter houses and places where people live.

I am lucky to overcome that childhood fear, so I can enjoy the amazing nature and admire that perfect design that these worms have. I can't help but remember that cartoon where the millipede has to put on his shoes before leaving home, it's so funny to think about having so many shoes and how much work it must be to put them on and take them off when he gets home.

Se alimentan de materia orgánica en descomposición. Su actividad comienza en el horario nocturno. Es después de las 6 de la tarde cuando se oculta el sol que se pueden ver, también de día, sobre todo en lugares frescos y oscuros.
Últimamente he vito una gran cantidad de estos amigos en todas partes donde estoy. Así que decidí compartí estas fotos.

Estos amigos habitan mas que todo en el jardín y donde puedan tener humedad y algunas hojas de árbol en descomposición. Pero es común que entren a las casas y lugares donde habitan las personas.

Soy afortunada por superar ese miedo infantil, así puedo disfrutar de la asombrosa naturaleza y admirar ese diseño perfecto que tienen estos gusanos. No puedo evitar recordar aquel dibujo animado donde el milpiés debe ponerse sus zapatos antes de salir de casa, es muy gracioso pensar en tener tantos zapatos y el gran trabajo que debe dar ponérselos y quitárselos al llegar a casa.
